Hibernians bid to win the 2017/2018 Women’s League ended in bitter disappointment as they lost the final and decisive game 4-1 against leaders Birkirkara.
Expectations had been high following what had been a tense and hard fought season long battle but two first half goals from Birkirkara left Hibernians with a mountain to climb.
Birkirkara then doubled their lead in the second half to put the championship race firmly in their hands.
Thuema did pull one back for Hibs, to bring her season tally to 22, making her the league’s top scorer.
The season is not quite over for the women. Hibernians will be back in action in the Knock Out quarter-finals where they will face Birkirkara again. The game will be played on Thursday at the Charles Abela Stadium, Mosta at 20:00.
