Andrei Agius retires from the Malta National Team

35 year old defender Andrei Agius has announced his retirement from the Malta National Team.

 

In February 2006, then aged 19, Andrei was named for the first time in Malta’s senior squad for the biennial Malta International Tournament which also featured the nations of Georgia and Moldova.

 

On 4th June 2021, Andrei made his 100th appearance for the National Team in a 2-1 loss against Kosovo. In total he made 102 appearances and scored 6 goals for the National Team during these past 16 years. His first goal came against San Marino on 14th August 2012.

 

Andrei will now be focused on his duties with our club to try and help the club achieve its target together with his team mates. As from next season, he will form an integral part of Hibernians Football Academy to help in the development of our athletes.

 

Andrei’s last match for the Maltese National Team will be against Azerbaijan in the next international break.
